Rowing Results from Maadi Cup

Fantastic results by our Rowers at the Maadi Cup last weekend.  The Maadi Cup draws the best rowers from Secondary Schools across the whole country and Wentworth Rowers achieved some excellent results.

8th in New Zealand - Girls’ Under 18 Coxed Four - Lucy Murden, Greer Donovan, Anna Riksen, Emma Ryder, Alana Pribicevich
13th in New Zealand - Girls’ Under 18 Pair - Greer Donovan, Anna Riksen
15th in New Zealand - Boys’ Under 18 Single - Chris Everitt
16th in New Zealand - Boys’ Under 17 Coxed Quad - Samuel Clarke, Jacob Langridge, James Banyard, Rhodes Jensen, Conrad Morley

Wentworth Rowers make College History!

After five seasons of hard work by current and previous squad members, Wentworth College took its rightful place on the North Island Championships podium this past weekend with Jacob Langridge and Chris Everitt winning a Silver Medal in the Boys' Under 18 Lightweight Pair.  Whilst this was the best result of the weekend, all squad members raced hard to obtain placings in a total of eight finals - a fantastic effort!

Gold & Silver for Taine at NZ Surf Lifesaving Champs

Congratulations to Taine Johnston (Year 11) for his fantastic results at the National Surf Lifesaving Champs in Whakatane last weekend.  Taine won a Gold medal in the 'Board Rescue' and Silver in the 'Beach Run Relay'.  Well done Taine!

ex-Student wins GOLD at NZ Rowing Champs!

Congratulations to alumni, Jake Guy (pictured, 2nd from right) and his team for taking Gold in the Men's Senior Quad at the NZ Rowing Championships in February.  Jake was a talented member of the Rowing Squad during his time at Wentworth, and we hold high hopes for his future in the sport.  Well done Jake!

Years 5/6 Basketball teams looking good!

Fabulous games last night from both teams! The Blues won their match 20:0 with Player of the Day Molly Langridge. The Reds also won 10:5 with Blake F-B as Player of the Day. Every single player worked terrifically hard with some super passing, marking and finding space.  Well done to all players!

2014 Athletics Day

Congratulations to all participants in last Thursday's annual Athletics Day.  Glorious weather, great House spirit and vocal supporters combined to make a fantastic day for everyone!
1st - McDonald House with 1465 points

3rd - Findlay with 1172 points.

Win for Junior Basketball team

Congratulations to our Junior Basketballers who won their Term 1 grading game 44-4.

Swimming North Harbour Champs

Congratulations to our swimmers who competed in the recent North Harbour Championships at the Millennium Pool in Albany.  Highlights include a 4^th place finish for Kieran Pangalila in the 50m Junior Boys' Backstroke.  Sarah Haggerty also had a very successful day with a 1^st place in the Senior Girls 50m Butterfly, a 3^rd in 50m Backstroke and two 4^th placings.  Her brother, Sam Haggerty, also placed 1^st in the Intermediate Boys' 50m Freestyle.

Golf

The golfers got their season underway last week but unfortunately faced a strong side from Massey High School.  The results were not in our favour but hopes are high for greater performance in the next match against Rosmini at the Peninsula Golf Course.

Football Success

Congratulations to Rose and Jacqui Gatfield-Jeffries who have both been selected to join the Northern Football Federation 14th grade girls' football development squad. This squad of 20 girls is the equivalent of the North Harbour Rep team. Rose has now been selected in the NFF age group development squad each year since 2011.  Jacqui has again been selected after being in the squad in 2011 and 2012.

Rowers

It was great to see our rowers working together so well in the sun and wind at Lake Pupuke last Saturday. It was a pleasure to watch their high level of skills and their camaraderie.  Mr Lee, Deputy Principal

National Swimming Champs in Wellington

Congratulations to Kieran Pangalila who achieved 3 gold , 2 silver and 3 bronze medals at last week's competition.

Mia Boot also did well at the competition, swimming in 7 races and achieving 2 personal best times.

Lewis Pangalila also swam and had excellent results with 8 out of 9 races being personal bests and 3 top 10 places, the best being a 6th place for the 200 backstroke.

Wentworth sailors, Sean and Liam Herbert, are on a mission to compete in the World Champs of the O'pen Bic Cup in Germany in July and show the world that while NZ is a small country, we have the best sailors!  Please check out their blog:  Herberts' Fundraising for Germany

Surf Life Saving

Congratulations to Taine Johnston for gaining 2 seconds and 1 third placing at the Eastern Regional Champs at Whangamata in January, as well a first, 3 seconds and a third at the Northern Regional Champs in Ruakaka over the weekend.  Well done, Taine!

Four Wentworth Netball players make North Harbour High Performance Squad for 2014

Shena Donald and Tia Legg have made the U15 squad of 22 from 65 trialists.

Rosalie Reeves and Grace Morris have made the U17 squad of 18 from 32 trialists.

Having four girls selected has placed Wentworth as the second most selected school after Westlake Girls.  For further details see the North Harbour website.
